Welcome in the New Year with some new traditions and experiences in the breathtaking PA Wilds regions. Winter adventures abound in the Allegheny National Forest & Surrounds.
Snowshoeing & hiking are very popular during the winter months on the Morrison Trail or at Minister Creek. Don’t forget about cross-country skiing, the high country in McKean County gets some great snow! There’s only two groomed cross-country ski trails in the Allegheny National Forest and they are Laurel Mill Cross-Country Ski Trail, and the access road to Rimrock Overlook,and there’s miles and miles to ski. If you are into ice fishing, the Allegheny Reservoir near Willow Bay and Chapel Bay is a great location for various species of fish. Valid PA fishing license is required, and please follow the PFBC rules and regulations.
Snowmobiling is also very popular and enjoyed by many, this area has over 365 miles of snowmobile trails, so there’s no shortage of fun. If you’d rather be in a nice warm car, taking in the views, there’s always gorgeous scenic drives around the area. Whichever your winter adventure may be, the Allegheny National Forest & Surrounds won’t disappoint, but be sure to do some research ahead of time to ensure there’s no road closures that may get in the way of your trip.
