A funny thing happened when we set out to create the lip balm of all lip balms.
As we formulated, reformulated, perfected and re-perfected, we realized something: our lips, the ones that need to be cared for every day, are the very things that help us care for those around us, including friends and family and even perfect strangers. So, our hope for Kind Lips isn’t just to become your gotta-have, nourishing lip balm, but that whenever you pick up a tube, you’ll remember to lay it on thick: the good stuff for your lips and the day-making words for everyone around you!
A BALM IS BORN
Our founder, Joshua launched Kind Lips in 2017, but the story really began when he was a young boy. Growing up his lips always seemed to be drying out. His mother (the best mother of all time) gave him Vaseline to help with the constant dryness and so began Joshua’s obsession with lip balms. Throughout life Joshua had searched supermarket shelves and boutique counters in pursuit of the perfect lip balm. Each tube and jar left one disappointment after another. Finally, he decided to do something about it.
In the winter of 2016 Joshua began an obsession with learning what others were putting in their balms and the purpose of each ingredient. Knowing this tube not only served as a reminder to be kind, but also that the balm needed to be kind for lips, Joshua began mixing the 100% natural and organic ingredients on his stove over the next few months on Friday and Saturday evenings. Believing less is more, he set out to chef a balm with the highest quality ingredients that would continually leave lips hydrated and kissable!
WHAT’S IN A NAME
One evening Joshua was sitting on his couch contemplating what his next calling in life would be. He wasn't sitting long before he knew it was to start a lip balm company (yes, we know that sounds weird) and to name it Blessed Lips. Shortly after being struck with the idea Joshua’s mother called to chat, and at the end of the conversation he excitedly told her about his new venture. After her son had explained his idea, Mary told him, “You will be good at whatever you choose to do in life.” The next morning the phone rang at 6AM, and it was Mary with more to offer. She eagerly began to describe a vivid dream she’d just experienced. In the dream Joshua said something mean to his sister, and his Mother made him sit down and repeatedly write “The law of kindness is on my lips.” As he was writing the sentences, the words “Kind” and “Lips” began flying off of the page towards her. She passionately voiced, “If you do this lip balm thing, I think you are supposed to call it Kind Lips, and it will be a reminder for people to speak kind words when they use it.” (Boom, told you she was the best mom!) From the first day Joshua began this journey, he knew Kind Lips would serve a higher purpose than just hydrating lips. It is Joshua’s belief that Kind Lips and its message will inspire kindness all over the world one set of lips at time.
